Most wire cut builders assemble a machine from bought-in boards and a bought-in power box. Zhikai started in 2005 as a control-software and control-circuit company. Control and power are still what we do ourselves.
Runs on Windows 10 and talks to the machine over Ethernet at 100 Mb/s. No plug-in card, no driver, so there is no control card to work loose and no PC compatibility problem.
Zhikai launched this in 2015. It removed the current-limiting resistor that every conventional EDM cabinet uses — and with it the biggest heat source in the machine.
The differences that show up on your floor, not in a brochure.
| Item | Zhikai | Conventional middle-speed machine |
|---|---|---|
| Body | One-piece, about half the floor space | Split cabinet, machine and tank — takes more room |
| Transmission | Precision ball screw + linear guide | Ordinary screw and V-guide, wears and loses accuracy |
| Drive | AC servo + closed loop, constant wire tension on X/Y/U/V/Z | Stepper + open loop, prone to lost steps |
| Wire system | Bi-directional auto tensioning, low wire wear | Open-loop wire running, poor tension, breaks easily |
| Cutting rate | 16,000 – 20,000 mm²/h in high-speed mode | 3,000 – 7,000 mm²/h |
| Idle traverse | 50,000 steps/s — 1 m in about 40 seconds | 1 m can take up to 50 minutes |
| Power draw | No current-limiting resistor, about 0.7 kWh | Resistor runs hot, about 3 kWh |
| Pulse power | Non-electrolytic constant-temperature, no resistor | Conventional pulse power, current fluctuates |
| Control | CoolCut, Ethernet based, no plug-in card | Old PC with control card, contact failures |
| Operation | One-key start | Split screens, many buttons |
Comparison compiled from Zhikai's internal test records and published competitor specifications. Actual results depend on material, thickness and operator settings.
